Evaluation: Technologies

I have learnt a lot about technologies from the construction of the magazine. When I was taking the photos I had to make sure that hey all had the correct lighting so they weren't too bright or too dark but when I did come across a dark image I lightened it in photoshop using the contrast and brightness tool. I didn't really use props in my images apart from the clothing I made sure all the models had suitable clothing which would tie in with the stereotypical "Indie" style. The models I used in my photographs I also had to make sure that they had the right "look" about them because there was no point in me putting a picture of a chav in a Indie magazine because it just doesn't go with the stereotypical style. I did a lot of planning for my photographs because I really wanted them to fit in with the theme of my magazine so I actually left them until last because I didn't want to take photographs before I designed my magazine so that I would have to fit a style around them. I managed my time really well and even had time to try out different types of layout, colours on the front cover and contents page. I looked at other music magazines and studied how they had composed certain aspects of their magazines so that I wasn't placing things wrongly and out of place so when I made my cover I put a large photo on with the masthead across the top with a little tag line underneath and a graphic with the price on and cover lines down the left hand side with a big graphics of the cover persons name and a tag line about them, the bar code is on the right bottom hand corner so that the image can be seen clearly. The main photo has been edited so that the background is blurry and the artist is more focused on, the skin has been smoothed and on the colour version of the image I have even made her eye colour stand out more. The contents page has been given a brighter vibe with three boxes filled with the contents and numbers and they all have their own titles with an unusual "punk" like font. There is a graphic of a pair of scissors and a cut along line going around the page and there are 3 images with little tag lines which tell you what page they are featured on. The double page spread was the hardest to do as I became really annoyed with the columns of text not being exactly in line, personal preference but it really bugged me. I placed large title of "New Talent" in the top left corner with a little "who by" bit underneath, the image has a white border running around the edge and down the side of the large image. To the left of the large image there are 3 smaller images this is to make it look like photo booth line of images. All the images are black and white which gives it quite a nice feel.
